Scarce oval cast iron bunker door plaque from the Army Rocket Testing site at Peenemunde. Cast German eagle and swastika and bunker number. Measures 16cm x 20cm in diameter.
Note: Peenemünde was a German Army research center on the Baltic coast where V-weapons (V-1 and V-2 rockets) were developed during World War II. It was the site of a significant British bombing raid in August 1943, which aimed to disrupt the German rocket program. While the raid caused damage and casualties, it only temporarily delayed the program
