Third Reich Grand Cross of the Knights Cross – Item 116363
Scarce 800 silver marked Grand Cross of the Iron Cross. Shop display example which would have been displayed in Medal and Awards Outfitters. This being as only one original was ever issued and went to Goring. The Grand Cross was awarded on 19.7.1940 and presented to RM Goring for his Leadership in the Western Campaigns. This outfitters example is three piece construction with iron core in good condition and silver frame nicely toned. Complete with full length neck ribbon.
Note: This piece as well as all others in the series of the Iron Cross was from an original design by Karl Friedrick Schinkel. The Grand Cross was almost twice the size of the Iron Cross. Hitler further directed that the Grand Cross be constructed with a gold frame but after having second thoughts on the matter decided to keep it in tradition of the Iron cross and it remained with a silver frame. Goring wore the Grand Cross above the Blue Max.
