Third Reich Communication Relating to Racial Identity – Item 86630

Interesting official communication from the District Magistrate to the Mayor of Markt Maria Anzbach dated 16.7.1942 and relates to the racial identity of one Josef Serafin. Stating that he is not an ethnic German as believed and is ordered to wear the letter P on his clothing making him known to be Polish.

Note: men and women were brought to Germany to work in all sectors of the economy as their was an extreme shortage of men folk in Germany during the many being called up for War service. At this time the Polish were considered an inferior race to the Germans and so they did not contaminate the German population and could be easily identified they were forced to wear “Polenabzeichn”. A small cloth patch 6cm square with the letter P in purple on a yellow background.
