Napoleonic Wars Call Out Papers – Item 103172

Scarce single sheet letter written to Horse Guards on 22 February 1978 and  signed by Major General William Fawcett, Officers Commanding the Lancashire Regiment of Militia. The letter is relaying an order from Field Marshall the Duke of York for assistance of Non-Commissioned officers to the Battalion of Supplementary Military about to be called out.  At this point of time Napoleon was assembling on the coast of France a fleet and invasion was expected plus there was considerable unrest a home and in the following May Habeas Corpus was suspended for the second time and the rebellion in Ireland was under way. A scarce and interesting letter worthy of further research. Complete with full translation of script.
