Scarce German Army Other Ranks Special Issue rabbit fur cap. As worn on the Eastern Front for extra warmth against the extreme cold encountered by troops. Pull down flap to cover ears for added warmth. Due to the extreme conditions encountered on the Russian Front a call was made for more suitable clothing and these special caps were introduced to replace the poorly un-insulated German Army ski cap. Good overall condition.
