British Military Hand Coloured Portrait – Col Josias Stewart – Item 119298
Hand coloured portrait sketch of Colonel Stewart, born 1781 and died 1839. He went to India in 1800 with the Honourable East India Company and served in Mahratta and Pindaru Wars of 1817. He lost his right arm and was wounded in the side in a sea engagement between the transport Teignmouth and a French Privateer in the Persian Gulf. Complete in its period frame and in excellent condition. Measures 18 x 25 cm overall.
