WWII British Cromwell Fibre Helmet – Item 92805

British Home Front private purchase Cromwell pattern fibre helmet. Complete with liner and rubberised chin strap. As use by Civil Defence units during WWII. The Cromwell protector helmet is probably one of the most identifiable fibre helmets used during WWII. Complete with all its original paint finish and what appears to be a unit number to side but not readable. A nice untouched and as found helmet. Now becoming a scarce pattern helmet. Similar example shown on Pg 305 of Helmets of the Home Front by George Blake.

Note: Winston Churchill was well aware of the development of non steel helmets and saw them as a stop gap prior to the widespread steel helmet distribution.
