Third Reich Confirmation of Signature General Lt Karl Von Treuenfeld – Item 94383

Rare captivity confirmation of signature whilst in allied custody for General lt karl Von Treuenfeld. Dated 19.10.1945. Von Treuenfeld was a career soldier and a German Waffen SS Commander. He Commanded the 2nd SS Infantry Brigade and the lst Infantry Brigade and commanded SS division Frundsberg. From December 1941 to September 1942 he was SS Police Leader of the Waffen SS in Bohemia and Moravia and served as the deputy of Reinhard Heydrich. After the assassination of Heydrich the men responsible were betrayed and trapped in the crypt of the methodist cathedral in Prague. It was Treuenfeld who was in command of the troops that stormed the church on 18.6.1942. A difference of opinion between Treuenfeld and the gestapo led to his replacement and transfer at the end of 1942. He then took up the post of Commander of the Waffen SS in Southern Russia and the Ukraine from February to November 1943. In November 1943 was relieved of command after being severely wounded in the Battle of Tarnopol. After recovering he became the SS leader of the SS main office in Italy. He was captured by the Americans and committed suicide in 1946 whilst in American custody. An interesting and unique signature.
