Rare Afrika Korps Sonderverband 288 metal Division badge. Complete with pin back fixing and correct attachment pin. Marked DAK 1941. Some corrosion due to dug up example but solid. Similar example shown in Dal McGuirk’s Rommels Army in Africa book. A scarce badge.

These were often used as metal cap or tunic insignia by members of the unit, which was formed in July 1941 and later redesignated as Panzergrenadier-Regiment Africa

 

Note:  The Sonderverband 288 metal badge is a rare, specialized insignia associated with a German elite motorized unit during the North African Campaign of World War II. It is distinctly different from standard Afrika Korps (DAK) insignia, featuring a unique design tailored to the unit’s specialized role.
