Unusual commemorative hand held compass. Brass construction with eagle and swastika to lid, German submarine and marked U412. Possibly produced to commemorate previous service on this U boat. Opens to reveal compass. Base stamped U412 and 1944. U412 was sunk in October 1942. Therefore, this is probably a commemorative compass. Working order.
