WWII RAF Observer/Air Gunners Log Book, Papers & Telegrams – Item 89545

Interesting WWII RAF Observers/Air gunners log book to P A Tansley, who qualified as an Air bomber at No 41 Air School on the 31st October 1942. In his time he saw active service operations including raids on Nuremberg, Turin, Peenemunde (Rocket site for V1 & VII in France – he took part in Operation Hydra), Berlin & Hannover. He was reported missing on 5 March 1944 and turned up in Gibraltar 53 days later. The last entry on 10.9.45. Included with the grouping are three telegrams to his father. The first saying his son is missing 6.3.44, the second that he had arrived in Gibraltar on 27 April and the third that he was back in the UK safely. These are still in their original envelopes as they were received. Also comes with his original pay book and RAF clothing card. An interesting grouping worthy of much further research.

Note:  The first raid on Peenemünde was Operation Hydra of the night of 17/18 August 1943, involving 596 heavy bombers of the Royal Air Force.
