Third Reich U Boat U995 Officers Desk Ornament – Item 92889

Interesting wooden and metal Memorial Relief of the German Kriegsmarine in memory of a stay of U 995 in the Bogenbucht in December 1944. Shows U 995  Squadron emblem and date on alloy plaque below. Stain wood construction. Measures 12cm high and 11cm wide.

The U995 carried out nine patrols in her career, sinking four ships, one of them being the American cargo vessel Horace Bushnell. On February 8th. 1945 Kaptain Hans-George Hess earned the Knights Cross for a daring raid into Kirkenes Fjord were he torpedoed and sunk a freighter. On May 8th 1945 the War was over and at the end of the war,  U-995 was stricken at Trondheim, Norway. She was surrendered to the British. Kapitain Hess surrendered his boat at Trondheim and spent a year in a Norwegian prison camp. The vessel then transferred to Norwegian ownership in October 1948
