Military Watercolour of Col Josias Stuart CB – Item 95580

Excellent military watercolour in gilt period plaster frame of Col Josias Stuart, who went to India as a Cadet with the Honourable East India Company about 1800. He led a prominent Naval career and lost his right arm when wounded in an engagement in the Persian Gulf. He later became Lt Col and accompanied Sir John Malcolm’s Embassy to Persia in 1805 as a First Assistant. Full details of his long career and awards gains are written on the back of the frame. The painting shows him in military uniform wearing his awards.  Measures 19cm x 25cm.  Good overall condition for age.
