			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>Super 1942 Battle of the Atlantic Gallantry Group. Awarded for the Destruction of the Italian submarine Pietro Calvi by HMS Lulworth. Awarded to Jx 136236 V.F.Hodgman A.B. RN. Group consists of 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star with clasp for France and Germany, Africa Star with clasp for North Africa 42-43, Italian Star and War Medal.  Group mounted with bar for wear and comes with the following documentation. Admiralty medal issue slip, Buckingham Palace letter for the DSM and citation for crossing the line dated 3 May 1933. This unique grouping issue for bravery, skill and determination when HMS Lulworth rammed an sank the Italian submarine Pietro Calvi. HMS Lulworth was on escort duty south of the Azores when she encountered enemy submarines. The ship carried out depth charge attacks forcing the Italian submarine to the surface. HM Lulworth carried out two attempts to ram the submarine. A boarding party from HMS Lulworth led by Lieutenant Fredrick North were hampered by fire. The Italian crew abandoned the vessel as it capsized. Frederick was unable to escape and lost his life. He received a posthumous mention in despatches in the same gazette as Hodgman&#8217;s DSM. There was only nine DSMs awarded for this action. A fine gallantry grouping.</h3>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>Excellent German Cross in Gold. Retaining much original bluing to outer star. Gilt wreath and enamelled swastika. Pin stamped 20 (C.F. Zimmermann). Reverse engraved with name of Hans Joachim Forster and date 12.9.1944. Good overall condition with just age patina to silver finish.</h3>

<p>Note:  After the usual training he was for three patrols first watch officer on board of <a href="https://uboat.net/boats/u380.htm">U-380</a> operating in the <a href="https://uboat.net/ops/mediterranean.htm">Mediterranean</a>. He left <a href="https://uboat.net/boats/u380.htm">U-380</a> in May 1943 and commissioned 5 months later the <a href="https://uboat.net/types/viic.htm">type VIIC</a> U-boat <a href="https://uboat.net/boats/u480.htm">U-480</a>.</p>
<p>Very successful became his second patrol in where he sunk 4 ships sunk with a total of 14,646 tons including the Canadian corvette <strong>HMCS Alberni</strong> and the British minesweeper <strong>HMS Loyalty</strong>.</p>
<p><a href="https://uboat.net/boats/u480.htm">U-480</a> was lost with all hands, 48 men, when she was sunk between 29 January and about 20 February 1945 in minefield Brazier D2 in position 50°22&#8217;04&#8243;N/001°44&#8217;10&#8243;W (Niestlé, 2001).</p>
