Excellent example of a 1957 issue Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with oakleaves. Comes complete with its original ribbon. Oakleaf award mounted to Knights Cross. Cross itself is a three piece construction with all original finish to the Iron core. Oakleaves marked 800 to reverse. A nice example of this high award.

Super 1942 Battle of the Atlantic Gallantry Group. Awarded for the Destruction of the Italian submarine Pietro Calvi by HMS Lulworth. Awarded to Jx 136236 V.F.Hodgman A.B. RN. Group consists of 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star with clasp for France and Germany, Africa Star with clasp for North Africa 42-43, Italian Star and War Medal. Group mounted with bar for wear and comes with the following documentation. Admiralty medal issue slip, Buckingham Palace letter for the DSM and citation for crossing the line dated 3 May 1933. This unique grouping issue for bravery, skill and determination when HMS Lulworth rammed an sank the Italian submarine Pietro Calvi. HMS Lulworth was on escort duty south of the Azores when she encountered enemy submarines. The ship carried out depth charge attacks forcing the Italian submarine to the surface. HM Lulworth carried out two attempts to ram the submarine. A boarding party from HMS Lulworth led by Lieutenant Fredrick North were hampered by fire. The Italian crew abandoned the vessel as it capsized. Frederick was unable to escape and lost his life. He received a posthumous mention in despatches in the same gazette as Hodgman’s DSM. There was only nine DSMs awarded for this action. A fine gallantry grouping.

Scarce and rare lid outer cover for the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. Manufactured by Klein & Quenzer A.G. Oberstein. This single section lid for the outer case is in good condition for age with minor tape marks to reverse where repaired over the years.

Interesting Imperial German Iron Cross lst Class. Excellent silver example. Cross marked with “18″ or “L/18″ indicating manufacturer of B H Mayer of Pforzheim. Also marked personally with “Verdun 1914″. Possibly the Battle where awarded. In nice condition and retains much original black finish to cross. Complete with pin and hook fixing and contained in its case of issue. A nice personalised example.

Interesting British Nurses Association 1887 Medal. Awarded to Miss Elizabeth J Rickwood. Bronze medal with back engraved with name and number. Comes complete with its original card and date of issue. An interesting pre WWI nurses service medal.

Cased Gold Grade Mothers Cross by Deumer – Item 117688

Good grade Order of the German Mothers Cross. Complete with full length neck ribbon and contained in original leatherette presentation case by Deumer. A nice example of this award instituted by Hitler for German mothers bearing children for the Reich.

Third Reich German Cross in Gold named to U Boat Commander – Item 117358

Excellent German Cross in Gold. Retaining much original bluing to outer star. Gilt wreath and enamelled swastika. Pin stamped 20 (C.F. Zimmermann). Reverse engraved with name of Hans Joachim Forster and date 12.9.1944. Good overall condition with just age patina to silver finish.

Note: After the usual training he was for three patrols first watch officer on board of U-380 operating in the Mediterranean. He left U-380 in May 1943 and commissioned 5 months later the type VIIC U-boat U-480.

Very successful became his second patrol in where he sunk 4 ships sunk with a total of 14,646 tons including the Canadian corvette HMCS Alberni and the British minesweeper HMS Loyalty.

U-480 was lost with all hands, 48 men, when she was sunk between 29 January and about 20 February 1945 in minefield Brazier D2 in position 50°22’04″N/001°44’10″W (Niestlé, 2001).

Bronze grade with Swords Eastern Peoples Medal awarded for bravery on the Eastern Front. Compete with original ribbon and fixing pin. retain 80% of its bronzed finish to medal. Overall a nice example of this bravery medal awarded to foreign troops fighting for the Germans.
